Wind Generator is one of the main sources of Electricity in the World that utilize the Energy of wind. Wind is a natural renewable source of energy. Wind generator are commonly used in places where wind speeds exceeds up to 5m/s or 16ft/s, usually in highlands with open air. You can also place a wind generator in seaside because wind in near sea are stronger and can produce more power. .Wind generators can be connected in parallel to produce more power. For day and night use, you can also connect a battery(for charging) to the output of the generator so you can use the stored energy anytime you want. The idea of producing electricity from wind might wonder us, but it is really easy to learn and understand. The picture below in black color is called a propeller. It is a device use to produce(propel) wind. This device is reversible in process, it can produce wind by rotating its shaft and it can also absorb the energy from wind as a result its shaft will rotate.
As the wind blows in the direction perpendicular to the blades of the propeller, the propeller will rotate because it absorbs energy from the wind. The energy absorb from the wind is transmitted to the electric generator connected to the shaft. As the wind blows faster, the propeller will also rotates fast as a result, the electric generator will produce more power. Theoretically, all power from the wind must be absorb by the wind generator, but in actual or practical manner, up to a maximum of 60% of wind power is only absorb. For better absorption of energy, the propeller must have maximum area in order to receive maximum energy from wind, such example as shown in picture below. The electric generator is mechanically connected to the shaft of the propeller.
Some of the other designs of more efficient propeller or wind energy absorbers are shown below. The design are fully Engineered designs to produce more efficient wind generators. Remember also that the shaft(grayish, long tube) is the one that is connected to the electric generator.
